Animal Spotlight: RODEO

Meet Rodeo!

Rodeo is our 2 year old Rambouillet, Katahdin, Merino ewe. She was born on March 3rd, 2023 (happy late birthday Rodeo!). I usually bring all of the animals home within their first year (if not born on the farm), but Rodeo was brought to the farm in February of 2024. She also happens to be Rowan’s younger sister!

The majority of the herd is goats, and until Rodeo was brought home, Rowan was the only other sheep. The day we let Rodeo out into the herd, she ran straight for Rowan. Rowan can be a little shy at first especially to new animals but after a short (and slightly funny) adjustment period, the two are now inseparable. They go everywhere together. Eat hay in the paddock, sun bathing, grazing, it doesn’t matter where Rowan is, Rodeo is surely right behind him. Over time, Rodeo has branched out and can sometimes be seen playing with some of the other does in the paddock.

Unlike Rowan, Rodeo is extremely friendly and loves her attention. She was bottle fed because she is one of three lambs born to her mom that year! This led her to be comfortable around humans and it really shows. She will always be one of the first animals to let everyone else know that it’s feeding time. She is still a little shy when it comes to the other animals but she has really grown in the last year! Rodeo is apart of our breeding program and will be expecting her first lambs in spring 2026.
