Meet Fergus!
Fergus is our 3 year old Nubian wether who’s bonded to our Romney/Katahdin wether, Rowan! I brought Fergus home in 2022 when he was just 6 weeks old and still being bottle fed. I still remember bringing him home in the cab of my truck where he snuggled up under a blanket for the whole 2 hour drive home. I thought he was the cutest, sweetest little thing ever, and he is…most of the time…
Fergus is one of those goats that is constantly up your butt (literally!) whenever you’re in the paddock. Always making sure to stay right next to my side while I feed everyone, fill up water buckets or just hang out with the herd. Although Fergus is super friendly, he also has this intense desire to bite everything. Anything hanging off from your clothes, like zippers or ties from your sweatshirt are fair game and you can be sure that he is definitely going to try to chew them.

When Fergus was about a year old, I went down in the afternoon to check on everyone when Fergus came sprinting up to me, screaming his head off! Somehow he’s gotten out of the paddock and I thought, since he was still a little guy that he might have crawled under a gap in the fence. I did a full circle around the paddock, with no gaps, hole or anything in the fence line that he could have gotten through. It wasn’t until I had fed everyone and gone into the barn to clean it did I notice the Fergus sized hole chewed through the back of my barn. Completely dumbfounded, all I could do was stare at what he’d done. The hole is still there, though its been boarded up and every time I have to look at it, it always makes me laugh.

If the goats are getting into trouble you can be sure 100% that Fergus is behind the start of it. From chewed holes in the barn, to knocking over the bucket that I put down for one second, to jumping into the back of my truck bed to “get a closer look” at what I bought, Fergus is right there, front and center. Regardless of how many times this guy has tested my patience the herd wouldn’t be the same without him. Check out our Instagram @thegoatfarmnh for more on Fergus!
